Let's take a look at the May 7th scrap between icon Manny Pacquiao and future hall of fame multiple world champ Shane Mosley. Everyone is talking as if this will be a complete blowout, a Pacquiao destruction over Shane Mosley. Will Manny Pacquiao defeat Shane Mosley? Yes I think so, but I do not think he's going to just walk over him.
Yes, I know that Shane has not looked too good in his last two efforts, but let's take a look at this clearly. Firstly, there was the fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. Yes, Floyd dominated Shane rather easily but this is Floyd Mayweather Jr. Floyd makes everyone look bad, he's that good!
Yes, yes, yes, I know that Pacquiao fans hate to hear that, but it doesn't matter. At the end of the day, Floyd Mayweather Jr is a great fighter. Floyd makes all of his opponents look bad, he's simply that good.
Shane then fought former Jr middleweight world champion Sergio Mora. He fought to a draw but most thought he should have been given the win. Shane didn't look good in this fight, but you know what? Sergio Mora, love him or hate him is a pretty darn good fighter. He's awkward, tall, and a tricky guy to fight. He took the Jr middleweight title away from the late Vernon Forrest, and showed the world that he's not just some reality TV fighter. Ask anyone that's ever fought Mora, or sparred against him and they will all tell you how good he is. The fans may have their opinion of Mora, but if you want to hear the real deal, ask those who have fought or sparred against him.
In the 2nd round against Floyd Mayweather, Shane cracked him with a blistering fast right hand. He hurt Floyd with that punch but made a mistake by not pouncing on him. Floyd Mayweather is one of the smartest fighters in the sport. He knows how to make adjustments during a fight. Usually Floyd has all of his opponents figured out by the 4th round, and then he makes his adjustments. He did the same thing with Shane Mosley. Once Shane hurt him with that right hand, he made quick changes and was able to go on to an easy win.
Mosley is still a fast puncher, and he hits hard. Manny Pacquiao has already showed that he does get hit. He hits other people more than he gets hit, but nevertheless, he does get hit. Mosley will do better against Pacquiao then most people think he will.
More than likely Shane will sooner or later succumb to Pacquiao's speed and he will lose a unanimous decision. I do not see Shane getting stopped or knocked out by Pacquiao.
Mississippians that I have spoken to about this fight for the most part predict that Pacquiao will win. I stopped by Time Out Sports and spoke with some of the fans. I spoke with Greg West of Jackson, MS. Greg is a Shane Mosley fan and believes that his guy has a chance, " Don't count Shane out of this fight. Manny is a great fighter, but Shane has a punchers chance. My man Mosley is going to give Pacquiao a much better fight then you think."
This fight is set for May 7th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
